This is a joint conference with papers from both INCE and ASME Noise Control and Acoustics Division (NCAD) members.
All abstracts and papers will be available on the conference proceedings DVD. Following the conference, INCE papers
will be available on the INCE online library site, and ASME papers will be available on the ASME publications website.
Instructions for Abstracts
Abstracts for both INTER-NOISE 2012 and ASME NCAD papers must be submitted here on the INTERNOISE 2012 Abstract Submission web site.
The deadline for abstracts is 15 February 2012 29 February 2012. Acceptance notices will be mailed by March 29 2012.
Upon successful submission of an abstract, an e-mail will automatically be sent to the author confirming receipt of the abstract and assigning an abstract identification number. You should put this number in a safe place because you will need it for all subsequent interaction concerning this submission.
All abstracts must be submitted with:
- Paper title. Capitalize only the initial letter and special letters such as: Korean, NAH, Rayleigh, Worldcup, etc. (20 words maximum).
- Paper affiliation: INCE or ASME NCAD
- Contact author’s name, organization, title, postal address (including country), phone, fax, and e-mail (essential) for correspondence.
- Authors' names and affiliations in the order they will appear in the paper.
- Indicate your preference for presenting this in a poster session or in an oral presentation session. Note: lead authors who submit multiple papers may have some moved to poster sessions.
- Text of the abstract which should be 1 paragraph.
The text of the abstract should exceed 100 words but must not exceed 200 words and be written in English. It should not contain acronyms, references, equations or variables, it should be plain text only. The text should include:
- A brief description of the problem being addressed
- Why the problem is important
- Description of the original contribution of the work
- Pertinent conclusions
The abstracts will be published in the program with only minor copy editing so please edit carefully before submitting. The abstracts will be published in a booklet to be available at the conference.
- Number or code of the special session, if applicable. Please refer to this website for information on the topics of special sessions, the corresponding session code, and its organizers. Indicate if the organizers invited you to contribute to this session (INVITED) or if you think this looks like a good session for your paper (SUGGESTED). If you cannot find a special session topic suitable for your paper, please submit to the General Topics session. We'll assemble similar papers into suitable sessions.
- Indicate if your paper will be entered in the INCE-USA/ASME NCAD student paper competition, or the I-INCE Young Professional Travel Stipend competition (you may enter one, but not both competitions).
Student Paper Competition
A student paper competition, sponsored by the INCE foundation and ASME NCAD, will take place at INTERNOISE 2012. A number of student paper awards of up to $1000 each will be awarded. Papers will be judged on quality of the written submission. Full competition rules are available at: .
Acceptance Notices
Acceptance notices of the submitted Abstracts will be sent to the authors by March 29 2012 and final manuscripts must be submitted by May 15 2012. With the acceptance notice, authors will receive additional instructions on the formatting and submission of their papers.
Initial information about paper submissions
Authors will submit papers as PDF files on the paper submission website (available in February). INCE papers must be at least 4 pages and preferably less than 12 pages.
ASME NCAD papers are limited to 12 pages. Also, ASME NCAD papers will be peer-reviewed. The paper formats for each paper type are different (see below).
The PDF files for either paper type may not exceed 25 MB.

Information regarding ASME's guidelines for paper review and acceptance can be found here.
After the initial paper submission deadline, ASME NCAD papers will be peer-reviewed by 30 May, with comments emailed to the authors. Revisions (if any) to accepted papers will be due 18 June.
IMPORTANT Please review and adhere to the paper format requirements.
The Proceedings editors may return your paper if it does not adequately comply with the formatting instructions, even if the abstract was previously accepted.
If your paper is returned, you will have a short time, proscribed by the Proceedings editor, to revise the paper to comply with the formatting instructions.
If the paper is not returned by the specified date with proper formatting, it will be withdrawn from the Proceedings and the InterNoise 2012 Program.
Note that papers should not have been published elsewhere, e.g., in other conference proceedings. Internoise papers should be comprised of mostly new material.
You will also need to fill in a copyright form and register and pay for the conference by the paper submission deadline to have your paper included in the conference proceedings.
INCE-USA grants authors joint copyright (both INCE and the author hold copyright). ASME, however, requires that authors not employed by the US government to assign ASME copyright.
You can find more information on ASME's copyright guidelines here.
When deciding which papers to move to poster sessions, we will give priority to those papers submitted by the 15 May 2012 deadline. Contributed papers submitted after that date may be moved to a poster session. Also, authors who submit multiple contributed papers may have some moved to poster sessions.
All registrants for INTER-NOISE 2012 will receive a printed booklet containing all abstracts, the final technical program, and a DVD that will include all INTER-NOISE 2012 and ASME NCAD papers. Conference organizers reserve the right to schedule papers for appropriate sessions and appropriate format (poster versus oral presentation).
No-show and mandatory presenter policy
Authors who do not appear at the conference to present their papers without prior written approval will have their papers removed from any future listing of Internoise 2012 conference proceedings on INCE-USA online libraries, and from ASME NCAD online digital libraries, which are listed with the Library of Congress. Any removed papers may not be cited as published papers.
